ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A Kodiak-based MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew forward deployed on St. Paul Island medevaced a 63-year-old King Cove resident suffering from abdominal pain to Cold Bay and a Kodiak-based HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew deployed on board the Coast Guard Cutter Morgenthau medevaced a 58-year-old Akutan resident reportedly suffering from stroke like symptoms to Dutch Harbor Monday.

Coast Guard District 17 Command Center in Juneau received a call from the King Cove medical clinic requesting a medevac at 12:15 p.m. an hour after receiving a call from the Akutan medical clinic requesting another medevac at 10:57 a.m.

The Jayhawk helicopter crew flew more than 300 miles from St. Paul arriving in King Cove at about 5 p.m. while the Dolphin helicopter crew flew more than 80 miles from the Cutter Morgenthau to Akutan.

Both people were transferred in stable condition.

The Morgenthau, a 378-foot high-endurance cutter, is homeported in Alameda, Calif., and is conducting a Bering Sea patrol helping ensure the safety of mariners working in the Bering Sea and Northern Pacific.
