NOME, Alaska - Denise Michels, the mayor of Nome, talks about what the Iditarod race means to Nome, about the Coast Guard’s history in Nome and the Coast Guard’s Iditarod sponsorship.

The Coast Guard is sponsoring Anderson, a 10-year Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race veteran during his 2011 Iditarod race attempt that extends through some of Alaska's toughest terrain.
