JUNEAU, Alaska — A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced a man experiencing chest pains from a 273-foot fishing vessel 15 miles south of St. Paul Island at 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Health Force Partners contacted Coast Guard District 17 watchstanders at 11:19 p.m. Sunday with a report that a 52-year-old crewmember on the fishing vessel Island Enterprise was experiencing heart complications.

Once a medevac was determined necessary, a Jayhawk crew forward deployed to St. Paul Island was dispatched to the vessel’s location. After the crewmember was safely hoisted, the Jayhawk brought him to the clinic in St. Paul to wait for a commercial medical flight.

“Having Jayhawk helicopter crews forward deployed to St. Paul Island drastically reduces response time in a case like this,” said District 17 Search and Rescue Controller, Chief Petty Officer Jeffrey Roberto.
