COAST GUARD RESPONDS TO CAPSIZED VESSEL | |
| JUNEAU, Alaska - The Coast Guard is responding to a capsized fishing vessel 60 miles south of Sand Point in the Aleutian Island Chain.
The Coast Guard received a call from the car carrier Overseas Joyce at 9:49 a.m. today, relaying a mayday from the fishing vessel Ocean Challenger. Three of the four crewmembers of the Ocean Challenger have been recovered after all four crewmembers fell overboard during the capsizing. The three recovered crewmembers were recovered by Coast Guard rescue helicopter. The search continues for the remaining person. Currently on scene is the Coast Guard Cutter Munro, a Coast Guard C-130 aircraft and one Jayhawk helicopter. The civilian vessel R.J Phifer is also on scene assisting with the search. The weather conditions on scene are 50 knot winds with 30 foot seas at 46 degrees Fahrenheit. The cause of the capsizing is still unknown. | |
