COAST GUARD RESCUES TWO AFTER PLANE CRASHES ON MANTAGUE ISLAND

KODIAK, Alaska - The Coast Guard rescued two people today after their small plane crashed on Montague Island Thursday morning.

The Coast Guard was notified Thursday evening by the Kenai Flight Service Station of the plane crash. The aircraft crashed at about 11 a.m. Those involved in the crash contacted the Kenai Flight Service Station by satellite phone and reported that there were no injuries. They setup camp for the night near the aircraft.

Air Station Kodiak launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter at 9:04 a.m., to locate the crash site. The helicopter arrived at about 11 a.m., and a rescue swimmer was lowered from the helicopter to pickup the two individuals.

The helicopter transported the individuals to Seward where they were turned over to emergency medical technicians for evaluation.
