TWIC enrollment, activation dealine nearing for Alaskans

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- By Feb. 12, 2009 all port workers, longshoremen and truckers in Alaska will need to have their Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Coast Guard credentialed mariners have until April 15. The program ensures that any individual who has unescorted access to secure areas of port facilities and vessels has received a thorough background check and is not a security threat.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Coast Guard and the Port of Anchorage will provide an opportunity for media to ask questions about the credential.  There will also be an opportunity to interview top TSA, Coast Guard and Port of Anchorage officials about the program.
