JUNEAU, Alaska --  Twenty-four Coast Guard members participated in a five-day training course which gave them perspective on both being rescued and rescuing survivors in Alaska's harsh terrain.    The five-day training course began with classroom instruction and culminated into an overnight survival exercise using only minimal supplies to survive on Douglas Island, Alaska.

The training was instruction by the Education Training Company from Sitka, Alaska.  The Coast Guard members learned how to better survive in cold water and mountainous Alaska terrain.  The students learned they could eat sea urchins and the devil's club plant that grow readily in Alaska.
