Coast Guard medevacs infant to Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau

JUNEAU, Alaska - A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Sitka, Alaska, medevaced a nine month old child from Point Agassiz, Alaska, nine miles north of Petersburg, Alaska, today at 11:29 a.m.

The Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Center in Juneau received a phone call today at 10:40 a.m. from Rena Sims, the baby's grandmother, reporting the infant was in need of medical assistance.

A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Sitka was diverted at 10:45 a.m., landed at Point Agassiz at 11:29 a.m. and brought the infant and father onboard. The helicopter arrived to Juneau at 12:16 p.m. where the baby was transferred to emergency medical services.

"I can't express my gratitude enough," said Sims. "I am impressed with how fast the Coast Guard responded."

The baby is currently being treated at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau.  Condition of the infant is unknown.
