KODIAK, Alaska – The Coast Guard and its boating safety partners are teaming up to promote safe and responsible boating during National Safe Boating Week which began Saturday and ends Friday.
Drowning remains the primary cause of death in recreational boating accidents. Statistics released by the Coast Guard indicate that 90 percent of boaters who drowned in 2007 were not wearing their life jackets. Wearing a life jacket is one of the most effective and simple life-saving strategies for safe recreational boating.
Below are links to four public service announcements for radio stations to use throughout the remainder of National Safe Boating Week. More information on National Safe Boating Week and boating safety can be found at www.safeboatingcampaign.com or www.uscgboating.org.
