Air Station Kodiak to hold change of command

KODIAK, Alaska – Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak, Alaska, will hold a change of command ceremony Thursday at 10 a.m.  The ceremony will be held in Hangar 3 at Coast Guard base Kodiak.  Capt. William C. Deal will relieve Capt. Andrew J. Berghorn as commanding officer of Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak in a formal ceremony.

 

Berghorn commanded Air Station Kodiak, the largest operational Coast Guard unit in the Pacific Area since July 7, 2006.  Berghorn’s next assignment will be as the Coast Guard liaison officer to the U.S. Navy Flight School in Pensacola, Fla.

 

Deal is arriving from Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington.  His prior career assignments include Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., Air Station San Francisco, and Air Station Detroit, Purdue University and Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington where he served as the operating funds manager for the Aeronautical Engineering Program and as the HC-130 Hercules system manager.  In 2001 he was assigned to Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak as the aviation engineering officer.  In 2005 he was assigned as commanding officer of Air Station Los Angeles.  In 2007 Deal was assigned to the Executive Office of the President, Office of National Drug Control Policy, where he served as chief of staff for the Office of Supply Reduction, chief of international interdiction and the United States interdiction coordinator’s executive director.

 

Deal’s military decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, two Achievement Medals and various other personal and unit awards. 

 

Deal is married to the former Kitty Lynn Hicks of Nashville, Tenn.  They have a son, Matthew, and a daughter, Jacqueline.
