Coast Guard searches Alaska waters for missing passenger on Zaandam |

JUNEAU, Alaska - Coast Guard aircraft and cutters are searching Stephens Passage, Lynn Canal and Icy Strait for a 45-year-old woman reported missing and believed to have fallen overboard between Douglas Island and Glacier Bay National Park. According to the crew of the Holland America's Zaandam, the missing woman ordered room service around midnight when the cruise ship was near Douglas Island. The Zanndam also stated she was reported missing by a friend at 10 a.m. when the cruise ship was in Glacier Bay National Park. The Coast Guard launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Sitka, diverted patrol boats Long Island and Liberty, and launched two rescue boats from Station Juneau. The Civil Air Patrol is assisting in the search with two aircraft and Glacier Bay National Park Service is conducting a shoreline search with multiple vessels. The search for the missing woman reportedly continues on board Zaandam while they make way to their next port of call. The water temperature is estimated to be approximately 57 degrees. The Liberty is a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Auke Bay, Alaska.
