Coast Guard, Crowley working to refloat fuel barge near Bethel

In these photos released by the Coast Guard the 160-foot Crowley barge 160-1 is grounded in the Kanektok River near the Quinhagak Village south of Bethel on the eastern shore of the Bering Sea Sept. 17, 2009. Personnel from the Coast Guard and Crowley are responding including response experts from the Coast Guard Pacific Strike Team.  

According to Crowley representatives the barge is carrying approximately 71,000 gallons of jet fuel and approximately 71,000 gallons of gasoline. There have been no reports of damage to the barge or pollution in the vicinity of the grounding. Equipment and personnel are en route from Bethel and plans are being developed to lighter the grounded barge and refloat it on a high tide.
