Coast Guard participates in Veterans Day observance ceremony in Juneau

JUNEAU, Alaska - Petty Officer 3rd Class Patricia Hickey leads the color guard down the aisle as veterans salute the American flag during a Veterans Day observance ceremony coordinated by Taku Post 5559 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States at centennial hall Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.  Veterans Day is formerly known as Armstice Day which is the day of the armstice that ended World War I in 1918.

The room where the observance ceremony was held at Centennial Hall was filled to standing room only as more than 200 attendees came to honor those who have served in the military and are currently serving.

There are 10 to 20 active veterans in Taku Post 5559 who represent wars dating as far back to Vietnam.
