Juneau Coast Guard Chiefs to hold 36th Annual Senior Citizen's Holiday Dinner

JUNEAU, Alaska - Juneau Coast Guard Chiefs and members of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer's Association Juneau Chapter are holding the 36th annual Senior Citizen's Holiday Dinner at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall Sunday beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Entertainment by the Irish Dancers of Juneau is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. with dinner being serve around 4:30 p.m.  Other entertainment during the dinner will include the Children of all Nations, the Highland Dancers, Juneau Jazz Band, the Juneau-Douglas High School Chamber Choir and the Circle of Light.

For seniors needing a ride to the event, Care-A-Van will again be available for transportation but it is important that they reserve transportation prior to Saturday as Care-A-Van will not be able to schedule pick-ups the day of the dinner.

The Juneau Senior Citizen's Holiday Dinner began 35 years ago when Master Chief Petty Officer Carl Constantine, Senior Chief Petty Officer C.T. Barger and a group of Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers who were stationed in Juneau at the time decided they wanted to do something positive and special for Juneau's senior citizen community.  The holiday dinner began modestly as the Chiefs hosted about 40 senior citizens at St. Ann’s in 1974.  Today, the tradition lives on and with the help of local business and organizations who contribute to the event each year, 350 to 400 seniors annually take part in this wonderful holiday event.

"The Chiefs would like to thank all the local businesses and organizations that have made this dinner possible and a successful event each year," said Senior Chief Petty Officer Charles Franklin, president of the Juneau Chief Petty Officers Association Chapter.  "The Juneau Chapter of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer's Association is honored to sponsor this festive holiday dinner for the senior citizens of Juneau year after year and looks forward to another exciting event."

Only senior citizens and their caregivers, where needed, should plan on attending.
