Coast Guard medevacs eight-month old infant from Hoonah

JUNEAU, Alaska – A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Sitka conducted a medical evacuation of an eight-month old infant from Hoonah Friday.

Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka contacted the Coast Guard at 4:04 p.m. requesting a medevac for an infant from the Hoonah Clinic reportedly suffering from pneumonia.

The helicopter launched from Sitka at 11:56 p.m., landed in Hoonah to take the infant aboard and safely transported him to Sitka where local emergency medical services were waiting.

The infant was immediately taken to Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital.
