Unified Command Press Release

KODIAK, Alaska -  Depending on the weather, today's operations will consist of over flights, beach surveys and wildlife recovery. Shoreline cleanup will not be conducted as all operational vessels are in Dutch Harbor re-supplying and conducting maintenance while they wait for safe weather conditions to resume their missions.

Lightering crews were able to continue skimming oil from the engine room Monday removing 2,239 gallons of miscellaneous oils. To date a total of 144,931 gallons of intermediate fuel oil/diesel/water have been removed from the wreck.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service crews recovered two oiled dead/scavenged birds from Chernofski Bay Monday. To date a total of 1,603 dead birds have been recovered.

A shoreline assessment team surveyed Wide Bay Monday and did not find oil along the shoreline. Another team will return to the bay today to ensure nothing was over looked.

Today's weather forecast in Dutch Harbor consists of southwest winds of 15-30 knots becoming northwest and increasing to 35 knots after noon, two to three foot seas building to 12 feet by 3 p.m., rain showers changing to snow this afternoon and an air temperature of 38 degrees but will fall to 30 degrees by noon.
