Photo Release: Coast Guard responds to grounded passenger vessel near Robert Island

KODIAK, Alaska - The 75-foot passenger vessel Catalyst sits aground after it reportedly struck a rock while nine passengers and four crewmembers were whale watching near Port Houghton west of Robert Island, a small island about 68 miles south of Juneau, July 6, 2010. The captain of the Catalyst reported approximately 1,600 gallons of diesel on board and there are no signs of pollution or visual damage. U.S. Coast Guard photo by Air Station Sitka.

KODIAK, Alaska - The 75-foot passenger vessel Catalyst sits aground after it reportedly struck a rock while nine passengers and four crewmembers were whale watching near Port Houghton west of Robert Island, a small island about 68 miles south of Juneau, July 6, 2010.

The captain of the Catalyst reported approximately 1,600 gallons of diesel on board and there are no signs of pollution or visual damage and the vessel reportedly re-floated about 6:40 p.m. during high tide.

The passengers of the vessel were transferred to Robert Island and awaited transportation to Petersburg, Alaska, after the vessel re-floated during high tide. KODIAK, Alaska - The Coast Guard Cutter Liberty observes as the 75-foot passenger vessel Catalyst is grounded in the distance near Robert Island about 68 miles south of Juneau July 6, 2010.

The passengers of the vessel were transferred to Robert Island after the grounding, they were later transferred onto the Cutter Liberty in the afternoon and awaited transportation to Petersburg, Alaska, after the vessel re-floated during high tide.

The vessel reportedly struck a rock while nine passengers and four crewmembers were humpback whale watching, and the captain reported no injuries, no pollution or visual damage to the vessel.
