KODIAK, Alaska- Crewmembers aboard a Coast Guard C-130 aircraft drop a dummy life raft out of the back door, during a drop-master training flight. White smoke from a flare, dropped by the air crewmen, is used as a guide to get the drop as close to the target as possible. Drop-master training flights prepare crewmembers for search and rescue cases that require water pumps, life rafts and any gear needed to help those in distress survive. During an actual search and rescue the crewmen will lay down and look over the edge of the open back door. (Official Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer Christopher D.
