Coast Guard Electronic Support Unit changes command

KODIAK, Alaska - The staff at Coast Guard Electronic Support Unit (ESU) will change commanding officers during a ceremony Tuesday at 10 a.m. here.

Cmdr. Andrew J. Sorenson will replace Cmdr. Michael P. Mckenna as the ESU's commanding officer. Sorenson comes to Kodiak from his previous assignment in Washington, D.C., where he was Deputy, CG-6 Transition Team, and Information Technology Asset Manager for the office of Information Systems and Infrastructure.

Sorenson is a 1988 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in government. He later attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., where he earned his masters degree in Information Systems technology in 2001.

Cmdr. Sorenson is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He is married to the former Martha Spalding of Amherst, N.H. They have two children, Emily, 11, and Jacob, 9.

Cmdr. Mckenna is departing as the commanding officer of ESU Kodiak to begin his new assignment in Portsmouth Va. as Chief of the Engineering Division for the Coast Guard Command and Control Engineering Center.

Mckenna is married to the former Crystal Danine Wright of Lancaster, S.C. They have three children: Meghan, 16, Melody, 9, and Nolan, 8.
