Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Juneau police respond to erratic boater in Auke Bay

JUNEAU, Alaska - Personnel from Coast Guard Station Juneau and the crew of Coast Guard Auxilliary vessel Noreen K responded to reports of an erratic boater in Auke Bay Saturday.

At 12:15 p.m., the Coast Guard in Juneau received reports from concerned mariners of an unsafe boater in Auke Bay. Coast Guard Station Juneau responded with a boarding team. Coast Guard Auxilliary vessel Noreen K, patrolling nearby, arrived on scene and began monitoring the situation.

The boarding team from station Juneau pulled alongside the vessel in question and performed a standard safety inspection. After determining the operator was intoxicated, they placed his vessel in tow and escorted him to Indian Cove, where they were met by members of the Juneau Police Department.

On shore, the operator of the vessel actively resisted and was restrained by both the Coast Guard and Juneau police officers. The unidentified man was taken into custody by the police officers.

The incident is under investigation.
