Photo Release: Coast Guard responds to vessel aground with 3,000 gallons of fuel in Wrangell

 WRANGELL, Alaska - The fishing vessel Barren Island lay on its port side after grounding with reportedly 3,000 gallons of fuel in its tanks at the grids in Wrangell Sep. 7, 2010. Marine Safety Detachment Ketchikan responders placed boom around the grounded vessel to contain any potential discharge while commercial divers simultaneously removed 900 gallons of fuel. WRANGELL, Alaska - The fishing vessel Barren Island lay on its port side after grounding with reportedly 3,000 gallons of fuel in its tanks at the grids in Wrangell Sep. 7, 2010.

Marine Safety Detachment Ketchikan responders placed boom around the grounded vessel to contain any potential discharge while commercial divers simultaneously removed 900 gallons of fuel.

The responsible party hired Alaska commercial divers out of Ketchikan who has reportedly lightered 900 gallons of fuel from the vessel, which has been boomed off by Marine Safety Detachment Ketchikan members.
