Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers search for missing Colorado man north of Kodiak

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew is searching for a 50-year-old Colorado man reported missing Friday on Afognak Island, north of Kodiak.

A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew launched at 12:10 a.m. Saturday morning and to search the area with no sign of the hiker.  The search resumed Saturday morning with an Alaska State Trooper aboard to evaluate the area for ground-based searches.

Coast Guard Sector Anchorage Command Center received notification at 9:26 p.m. Friday that the man was missing since 1:30 p.m.  Members of the missing hiker's group reported they had searched the area around their hunting lodge until darkness with no sign of the man. The hiker was reported to be dressed in a blue jacket carrying a firearm and a flashlight. 

Weather in the area is reported as clear with winds at 25 mph.
