KODIAK, Alaska — A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew hoists four crewmembers from the ice nearby their grounded fishing vessel Jan. 25, 2012.

Extreme weather conditions left the fishing vessel Kimberly crew stranded in Portage Bay overnight.

The Healy and crew have been escorting and breaking ice for the Renda since Jan. 3, 2012, to deliver more than 1.3 million gallons of fuel to Nome.

KODIAK, Alaska — A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew rescues a surfer stranded on a cliff near Fossil Beach on Kodiak Island Dec. 11, 2011.

The Coast Guard was notified by Alaska State Troopers and the rescue crew safely hoisted him from a 200-foot cliff with no reported injuries.

KEKU STRAIT, Alaska - A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew rescues a man from a sinking vessel in Keku Strait Nov. 1, 2011.

The man was overdue on a voyage from Kake to Wrangell and needed to be rescued after his 22-foot pleasure craft began taking on water.

Video Release: Coast Guard responds to mayday call 20 miles north of Kodiak

KODIAK, Alaska – Coast Guard Sector Anchorage launched a MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter after receiving a mayday call from a crewmember aboard the 71-foot stern trawler Coho reporting they were taking on water with three people aboard 20 miles northwest of Kodiak at 12:08 a.m.

The Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew and a nearby good Samaritan vessel Leslie Lee were able to transport dewatering pumps but the Coho crew declined assistance after they were able to dewater the vessel.

"We train everyday to help maintain readiness for any emergency situation," said Senior Chief Petty Officer Rex Walsingham, Sector Anchorage command center supervisor. "The training benefited us today as we were on scene and prepared to assist the crew aboard the Coho as needed."

The crew aboard the fishing vessel moored safely in Kodiak at 9 a.m.

JUNEAU, Alaska - Coast Guard video shows three of the five-man crew from the 58-foot fishing vessel TerriGail being transferred from a Kodiak-based HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to the Coast Guard Cutter Morgenthau Feb. 8, 2011.

The weather on scene was reportedly 50 mph winds with 10 foot seas at 2:50 in Makushin Bay.

JUNEAU, Alaska - A Sitka based Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew safely transfers a 58-year old man from Skagway to emergency medical services personnel in Juneau, Alaska after medevacing him from the Skagway clinic because he was reportedly unconscious Jan. 23, 2011.

In Alaska, the Coast Guard is often relied on to transfer people from remote clinics to hospitals in bigger towns due to the often inclement weather which doesn't allow civilian medical flights to render assistance.
